Do you think about enlightenment? Have you ever really considered the concept?
It will mean different things to different people, and it still might be a profound experience whatever occurs, but why not chunk it down to something not so intimidating so we can all experience ‘the road or path’ …
Notice I didn’t say ‘ to it’. That might mean it’s a destination.
The journey, your journey, may have many enlightening moments!
It may be the beginning of new things. So we are not thinking ‘ well I’ve made it to the destination, what next?’
Or we could look at enLIGHTen-ment as being ‘in the light’ and seeing or experiencing the ‘light’ as opposed to ‘living in the dark.’
Some of us are described as cave dwellers, existing in the darkness of our conscious and ego minds.
So when will you awaken and ‘see the light? ‘
When will you see the world through the minds eye, not your physical eyes?
Today in 2018 it doesn’t seem very easy or possible to go sit on a mountain for 5 years and enter a Zen meditation for all the answers.
It is more realistic to ‘do it now’. Practices that are in the here and now, looking inward and doing your best to cast away the pain and loss and the fear of the pain and loss from the past or worry about something that may happen in the future. Be present. The best way to DO this is through the breath. Why wait? Try it now. The answers are actually within you.
‘Enlightenment is not an attainment it is a realisation. And when you wake up, everything changes and nothing changes. If a blind man realises that he can see, has the world changed?’ Dan Millman
My teacher said to me ‘to reach enlightenment chop wood and carry water. And when you reach enlightenment chop wood and carry water some more. ‘
Be a seeker of the light. Free yourself of the darkness that holds your best intentions at bay.
Dwelling on past problems will no longer be as important for your conscious mind to ruminate about anymore.
